timbo343 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 We've been using their hosted system for about a month now and things have been ok, maybe a little slow at times but you kinda get used to it. Also, i think moving a few rules around in smoothwall may have helped too. We seem to have hit a brick wall with the biometrics though. On the OnPrem version there used to be a button in circulate that the librarian used to click on called Identification to register the borrowers finger. This is no longer there in the hosted Eclipse as they say they no longer support it. Pic: Showing Identification on an OnPrem version of Eclipse Pic: Showing no Identification button on our hosted system Now the librarian has to run a program locally to the machine called MLS.Biometric.Config however this is where the fun begins.. it won't run as the librarian. We have put a shortcut to the program which is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Micro Librarian Systems\MLS Hardware Support\Bin. Here's what we've tried already: > C:\ - User has full access to C - not working. > C:\Windows\Temp - Added user to the read / write permissions - doesn't have an affect >> Full access given to this folder - no affect > C:\Users\PROFILENAME\AppData\Local\Temp - user already has full control to this area > C:\Program Files\Micro Librarian Systems - added user to the read / write - doesn't have an affect >> given full access to this folder - no affect > C:\Program Files (x86)\Micro Librarian Systems - added user to the read / write - doesn't have an affect >> given full access to this folder - no affect Full control given to HKLM - restarting machine >> no affect - still not working > Setting the user as an administrator works > Setting the user as a power user doesn't work > Logging into the machine as a local user with no admin rights and running the program is still asking for admin rights for the program to be ran. > It would appear that admin rights are required for this program to work. If anyone has managed to get this to work, i would greatly appreciate your help on this. I get the feeling the MLS are stuck with this too. Apparently they have a call logged with a school today as they are in the same boat as me. If you are that school, could you please let me know and if MLS manage to fix the issue please post on here - thank you. We cannot have the librarian part of the local administrators group for that machine, even the librarian has said they don't want this level of access.
3s-gtech Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 You may find psexec does what you want. It should be used with caution, but in some circumstances it's the only way. We use it to launch the godawful laser cutter software we run. Make sure you at least have @echo off in the launch script! (at symbol)echo off psexec -user Administrator -p passwordhere C:\Program Files (x86)\MLS\pathhere Make sure the local admin password is unique to this PC!

Another edugeeker has PM'd me about a patch they have so i'm waiting for them to host it so i can download it and try it. If it doesn't work, pxexec may have to be the only way which i hope doesn't have to be as i don't really want psexec on the network but if we have to get round go awful software then i guess it's the only way. If psexec is to be used, i will create a new local user with a mighty strong password for this occasion. Many thanks
timbo343 Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 The updated patch has cured the problem. 1
timbo343 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Just want to put this out there. MLS are wanting to know what the fix was for this issue however i'm loath to give it to them after reading what happened to an edugeeker and MLS at BETT last week http://www.edugeek.net/forums/enterprise-software/191081-mls-eclipse-replacement-accessitlibrary.html#post1645392. What would you do regarding this?
BOOT Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 From what I can tell, they already have it. Their support people just don't seem to know that it exists.
