Disappearing Printers - Win 10

Hi All,

 

First post here as normally find the answers without needing to ask! We are running Windows 10 LTSB 1607 and quite recently we've noticed printers not mapping on log-in. We haven't changed a thing so was wondering if anyone knows if there's been a update or anything causing this issue

How do you currently map your printers to the computers? via group policy or login script?

We use a login script as GPP was really inconcistant in windows 7 and 10

So mine was the other way our login script stopped working a while back I moved everything to gpo. Heres how we set it up;

 

On our DC we created gpo for the rooms/users we wanted to have certain printers so maybe Printer Policy Room 3 for example link it to the correct OU so for us its Room 3 then on the print server under print management I right click the printer I want and do deploy with group policy then link it to the Printer Policy Room 3, do the same if you want more than a couple of computers linked to that policy.

I've tried every possible method (besides manually installing them as IP printers on every PC, not an option) and they still randomly disappear or don't map. Our "fix" is "Try rebooting your PC and they might come back", works 90% of the time.

 

It's random users and random PCs so no pattern to it.

yep, same with us using and we're using a log in script, no set patterns or specific PCs. It just happens randomly, restart does do it however we just add them manually back if they're in the middle of something

Is the print spooler set to 'automatic (delayed start)'in Services?

 

I had this issue the Print Spooler was set to the above, set it to 'automatic' and havent had an issue yet.

It happens when the machines have been on for hours and used before so I can't see they delayed thing causing it.
