[sims] SIMS Proxy settings

Our Primary School has a new proxy server. Previously they didnt go through a proxy. When Staff are trying to Validate addresses SIMS is asking for proxy details. I have gone into Tools>Setups>SIMS Services but this only works for the machine I do it on.

 

Is there a way to set this globally for any users of SIMS?

pretty straight forward looking at it on my machine.

 

Presumably the proxy isn't just being used for SIMS validate addresses, so if the proxy has been set through Group Policy then in the screen Tools>Setups>SIMS Services should be set to "detect server from user settings".

 

This should be the default (since they didn't use a proxy before) so shouldn't require you to make any changes.

Proxy is set via Registry setting through GPP.

 

In SIMS their default seems to be that the "I access the internet through a proxy server" box is not ticked. Which makes sense since they never had a proxy before.

We've been getting "unable to communicate" notifications, so could be related. Have to disable address validation for the session.

We are getting the message below so definitely proxy related.

Just spoke with our SIMS Support guys and they said there was no global way to set this. Luckily only 2 people in the School use the validate addresses functionality. Once I put the setting in it does work and the validation works.

I wonder if the validation is a separate thing our LEA have neglected to keep up the subscription for?

Is it? I'm just going by the advice given by our SIMS Support team. If I set it on one PC does it mean its set globally? If not how would I get the setting in the database?

Set it on one, then go to the other computer and see if its still set be the easiest way.

It wasn't that's what the issue was but I did check within about 10 mins. Maybe I will look again tomorrow to see if the setting has propagated to other machines.

propagate? It's querying the database surely? Have you tried updating it, restarting the computer then checking its still set?
