Newbie to Edu MIS (& also Progresso) - Thoughts & advice welcome

Hi all

 

After many years in health data management, I'm leaping across into the wonderful world of education, soon to take up a position as a Data Manager for an academy in yorkshire.

 

Have just come across this site & can see it offers up a wealth of support so my question is to all others out there in the DM field, as I wish to throw the net out as wide as possible.....

 

Are there any online resources/blogs/feeds etc akin (or not) to this one that have helped you on your journey? (anything would be useful but I'd be especially interested to hear from anyone with similar experience in crossing sectors).

 

Secondly, the academy has recently transitioned to Progresso and I know there are some challenges ahead as there always are with any data migration & adoption of new systems, and so again, any useful networks that individuals know of (or indeed anyone 'up north' who may be up for setting something up if nothing exists already re: sharing Progresso knowledge/best practice?)

 

Any experiences, ideas, nuggets of wisdom greatly appreciated as, from experience in my previous sector, channels like this are invaluable.

There's a Data Managers group here on Edugeek though it's a bit quiet these days. I suspect one reason is that a lot of people joined the Facebook group "School Data Managers", which is a good resource (although do be aware that it is run by reps from one software company so is not entirely independent).

 

Lots of people also mention the SSAT forums though sadly our school are not members so I can't access those.

 

Twitter is also brilliant for keeping in the loop with data stuff. There have been a few discussions in the Edugeek DM group about who is worth following.
