Local Exchange & Office 365

Hi,

If 2 organisations have separate email systems, local exchange and office 365, is it possible to create a trust where users can all been seen across both organisations in address lists, or would both have to all be on 365 or local exchange (one or the other?

 

The local exchange server organisation has Azure AD sync installed to use 365 applications/logins.

I know 10 years ago back to Exchange 2003 days we had a domain trust and we ended up importing contacts into a separate OU so we could populate our GAL with the other domains users. There was a connector in Exchange to link for sending and receiving of mail but the GAL didn't see possible.

In Short, yes.

 

For the users to be seen the global address list, they need to be imported as contacts. So Org A mailboxes are shown as contacts in Org B and vice versa. How you do this is interesting, could be a power shell script or MIM, the latter which you might be licensed for, though is pretty complex.

 

For sharing calendars and similar, you need to subscribe to the Microsoft federation gateway. This is a service from Microsoft which mediates between organisations

Or, are you saying one org is exchange on prem and the other 365? In which case for deep integration (i.e. if the organisations were merging) you could join the two in hybrid.

Thats how currently do it , but relies on a manual export /import at both organisations. Integration to join the 2 is proably more for what i'm looking for. Will look into this.
