Kodu on a remote desktop

Hi,

 

Just wondering if anyone is running Kodu on a remote desktop server. We were asked to set it up over the summer and it did work, however this term we are receiving reports that it runs too slowly.

Each time it starts up the process immediately jumps to >60% utilisation for the kodu process. If I give the server more resource (2012r2 guest on Hyper-V) we get the same result with regards to system processes.

Is it disk intensive? What's the server spec? How many users? What is the RAM/CPU/HDD usage when running?

the virtual server started as 2 CPU and 8GB RAM, just to see what happened I increased the number of CPUs and the RAM assigned to the guest. The same results, immediate high CPU utilisation. Its almost as if the process wants to grab as much resource as possible.

 

As for users, testing today, it was just myself. When they have a class running there may be 8 or 9 users. That is when it really starts to lag.

Unless you are using Windows server 2016 with a something like an Nvidia grid I'd forget about trying this.

Our IT teacher asked about it the other day, and my guess was that there would be performance issues - your experience would rather seem to confirm this. The kind of hardware we have on-site isn't going to be able to handle this kind of application, although an off-site rentable-by-theminute VM (from AWS, Azure, Google, etc) might be an option. Either that, or someone like these people:

That's a high-end desktop, rentable by the month and streamed to your desktop. They're seeling it as a gaming service, but I'm rather thinking high-end video editing.
