I have just received this from Rob Hunter at RM:

As you may have noticed, some players have been able to achieve massive

scores! As many of you have pointed out but as this is a bug in the

game, not an example of cheating by the player it seems harsh to remove

the players score... Instead I thought I'd let you know how it has been

done so you can try and replicate it!

As a pointer in the right direction the app can get caught in some sort

of loop when you have other windows open in the background... experiment

away! You won't get many better opportunities to bag yourself a free

laptop!

The prize is a Mobile ONE

<RM Mobile One 945GM

_eg> laptop for the top score. The prize goes to the individual with

the top score for them to do with what they please... (no jokes please!)

Most importantly... the competition has been extended! The last day of

the competition is now midnight on the 10th April.

Winners will be contacted using the details provided on the high score

entry soon after

Play Laptopdrop

Get those scores up :)

I too think its wholly unfair to go and extend the deadline AFTER the deadline itself!

Might not have minded if the announcement to extend was actually before it ended.

I think it looks bad for RM to move the goal posts like this to probably (IMHO) try and score some more publicity.

Sad really, it might have kept Ric_ quiet for a while too... :p

I think that Ric should get the laptop too... you can't announce an extension after the deadline... just plain wrong!

We should refuse to play then he wins it anyway!

guys... totally fair points above - my apologies!

Basically this was a bit of an oversight on my part... the forum sponsorship was supposed to run for the full calendar month of March with the competition end date on the last day of the month. However, due to technical delays creating and getting the ad live on the site (relating to flash version and clicktag) the start and subsequent end of the sponsorship was delayed. Hence the change to the end date.

Anyway, enough of the boring stuff… I can see now that this is far too late in the day and unfair on Ric, so…. Congratulations Ric - you are the winner of the Mobile ONE laptop! One of the guys here will be in touch with you shortly.

In light of my ‘school-boy’ error and to keep things interesting for the remainder of the forum sponsorship if anybody manages to beat Ric’s score before the 10th April they will win an RM ASUS Minibook RM Asus miniBook *

Hope that you will all have another ‘bash’ at the game!

All the best

Rob

*1 to give away to the top score above Ric’s 856.455

I smell a boycott.

Yes. You all boycott it.

*sneaks off to rack up a higher score knowing the competition has sat down in protest*

Very good of you Rob.

Looking forward to seeing if anyone can beat his score!

Does that mean that if I get a higher score, I also get a Minibook? ;)

Ric, do you think it's ethical as an admin to win the laptop?

;)

Dos_box - from my point of view as long as you aren't a full time employee of RM or the game designers I see no reason why you shouldn't win the minibook if you beat Ric's score! I guess you are a school tech/network manager anyway so if your fellow Edugeek admins have no problem with it we are happy!

Ric - I think you should let somebody else have a chance! ;)

I don't know in detail how RM is connected with this forum but I gather that the company is connected in some way. If Ric isn't working for RM then he's just as entitled to the prize as anyone else. If he is being paid by RM and is in some way connected to the competition then I don't think it would be fair. That is my opinion anyway. Well done Ric!
