DHCP Clients stopped updating DNS?

Hello everyone -

 

First post - Looks like a great website! Anyways -

 

I'm running a 2003 server with AD, DNS and DHCP among other services. I've noticed recently that my DHCP clients (not binded to AD) are not getting put into my local DNS - and I can't access them by hostname. Can anyone think of what could cause this issue?

Can you ping the Server from the clients and vice versa?

If the client is not part of the AD domain and your DNS server only allows 'secure' updates, they will not be able to create/update their dns records. As they have no way to authenticate with the DNS server. There are several ways to fix this:

 

1) Tell your DHCP server to update the DNS records

2) Allow insecure DNS updates

3) Add the machines to your AD domain
