SHimmer45 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 you only need to pay once for the version you require and then you can use it forever, its only if you want to upgrade the software after a year that you then need to pay again. unless they have changed the process in the last 8 months.

Your thoughts on this? I looked at Open Sankore a few years back but we never implemented it.
SHimmer45 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Don't you need to by X amount of copies depending on the amount of IWB's you have installed? when i purchased a license and then looked in the license manager one license manages 5 activation's. might be worth a call to your reseller for them to confirm how the license model works.
RichCowell Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 (edited) I think it's one licence per user (SMART Account linked with their email address) rather than per board now... But you can use it in basic mode after your licences expire - other than the fancy collaboration features and games I'm not sure which features you lose doing it this way, but it will display a watermark, the same way I think it does when you use the software on non-SMART boards. Steve21 Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 We looked at dropping Smart and found for the small annual sub it's silly to waste many man-hours converting stuff across. If you're not using alternative products for touch-screen and still using Smartboard's it's not at all expensive for a site license Steve

I can't blame them (or anyone) for starting to charge for the software, they put a lot of time into developing it and introducing new features, and that has to be paid for somehow... You could always use use other third party solutions, or just Microsoft Ink with PowerPoint / Word etc. and not use SMART Notebook / SLS at all, but that's not as good for some things... We'd been using V11 up until last year, and then made the move to SLS, but going to see what it's like in basic mode before renewing the licence.
