I've just noticed that several regional papers are running articles reporting that local hospitals are having to start asking people to stay away if they have the current flu outbreak which is sweeping the country

The message 'Just stay home and be ill for a few days' needs to be rolled out each year, but they also link to this - https://flusurvey.org.uk/ - an up to date map showing just how bad it's getting in your area.

By the looks of it, it's pretty widespread now. Anyone been struck down yet or are you waiting for the kids to bring it in from home and take out the entire school in one go?

Both my housemates have had it, one of the people in my office has it now (they're off), the husband of another has it, and their son had it over new years. So, its going round down here, that's for sure! My housemate lost about a stone and could barely move for nearly 2 weeks.

My brother and his wife have had it and I'm bricking myself in case I go down with it just before Bett as it's dropping people all over the place up here.

I don't appear to have been affected - but then, I had the flu jab, so maybe that's protected me. I usually get every bug and illness going.

A flu jab? Actually protecting you from the correct type of flu for once? I don't believe you. ;)

Our local hospital The already-pretty-dire Queen Alexandra issued a warning to steer clear of casualty over Xmas due to excessive demand for emergency services...

A couple of my Facebook friends have been ill. I had a snotty cold all over Christmas but nothing bad enough to be a flu of any kind. I gave my cold to LeHusband who promptly went down with a chest infection and is now complaining that his 'bones hurt' but I think that's just because he likes to pretend he's not a man-baby but really he totally is when it comes to coughs and colds.

I'm hoping to avoid anything too serious - I've already had a bunch of sick leave when my back went and can't really afford to be hassled about MORE.

My sister in law said the same thing, apparently it can be quite painful this flu.
