USB storage only showing less storage

Hey,

 

Family member asked me to look at a USB portable hdd, it's a Seagate Backup Plus 1tb only Windows only sees ~230GB. No hidden partitions etc, purely saying its 230 odd gbs. Ideas on a postcard

Silly question have you tried formatting with HP Disk Utility ?

It's not a fake product is it? Maybe it does have a 230GB drive inside.

Starting to think it's got a 250GB drive in it. Its defo a Seagate 1TB case, it looks genuine and doesn't appear to be tampered with. Guess it has

I have seen fake USB drives and SD cards knocking around recently. They are a small capacity branded up with something larger.

 

Can you see a model number in device manager and then Google that? Might throw some light onto it.
