Veeam Free version

I back up all my Hyper-V machines using Veeam. The hosts were running 2012 R2. I recently wiped them and installed 2016 (and did the same with the backup server), then found that Veeam 8 didn't work with 2016. I upgraded Veeam to 9.5 but now all my backups take approximately twice as long. I raised it with Veeam who basically said it's nothing to do with Veeam, it must be my servers. All the correct and latest drivers and updates are installed. Any thoughts anyone?

What's it saying is a bottle neck for it?

 

Could be 101 things really, if drivers aren't happy on raid, if nic's aren't happy, VSS setups etc etc

It says the bottle neck is the network at around 40mb, however historically it was also the network causing the bottle neck but at 90mb+!

 

All drivers are manufacturers drivers rather than Microsoft's version, and all report they are fine. I've used ReFS for the hosts, but I also tried it on NTFS out of curiosity. The backup server has 2 NICs teamed (says it's connected at 2Gbps), and each server I'm backing up has 4 or more NICs, all teamed together.

Did you re-disable VMQ etc on the NICs if it's fresh install?

 

Also did you re-set up how many snapshots etc the hosts can provide at once if you get that option in the free one?

Hadn't done the VMQ disabling. All my Broadcom cards were disabled by default. I've now done the others and will try again.

 

The 'how many snapshots' is set to 4, as it was before.

Where in veem do you see the network speed? all i can see is "throughput all time" which is 195.1MB/s which is miles higher than your best..(1gb link) maby you have a problem on your network

If you highlight over the throughput graph it'll show read and transfer speeds, as that includes disk read times etc not just network you're using
