Today we are pleased to announce the general availability of the Microsoft Whiteboard app for Windows 10. Whiteboard gives teams a freeform, intelligent canvas for real time ideation, creation, and collaboration. Since releasing a preview of the app in December, more than 200,000 customers have helped us fine tune the feature set and end user experience. Based on their feedback we’ve added a number of new features, including text notes, the ability to add and manipulate images, enhancements to shape and table recognition, accessibility improvements, compliance with various global standards, and more. In addition, the Whiteboard app for iOS and preview on the web will be coming soon. These releases will mark an important milestone in our journey to make Whiteboard the best tool for freeform collaboration across platforms and form factors.

You can find Microsoft Whiteboard on the Microsoft Store, today: the app is free to use for everyone, but the collaboration features will require one of the participants to have an Office 365 subscription. The company also announced today that Microsoft Whiteboard is coming soon to iOS devices as well as the web, though there is no ETA yet.

Is this best to provision this in Windows 10 image or use the likes of SCCM (Currently setting that up)

Never added an app for a deployment image/computers

Only ever removed alot of useless ones :)

Whiteboards appear to automatically get saved in the cloud, I assume under the users online profile a bit like OneDrive (although I can't see any files in OneDrive for these Whiteboards. PNG files of the whiteboard can be saved onto a local machine or network, but can not be imported by another user, so I would assume there is no way of giving independent copies of a whiteboard out which other teachers could manipulate but not affect your copy.

If you deploy a store app with SCCM it will keep requesting the user to install it from the store. It's not the same as Win32 MSI/exes. An Azure AD joined win10 pc can have apps provisioned. I've yet to test a comanged PC.

Hi I’m just in the process of building a new network and have done an offline app for whiteboard on latest windows 10. I’ve not seen it request the user update ‘yet.’

I've not tested the offline app method. But by the looks of it it would work. Though I'm guessing it's powershell when you need to update it.

Microsoft Whiteboard for Education is now live on iPad

Microsoft teased the appearance of its Whiteboard for Education software for the iPad a few days ago and now it looks like the app and subsequent service is ready for prime time.

Today, 20 November 2018, Microsoft announced that Whiteboard for Education is available for Windows 10 and will be available for iOS in preview form next week.

The app is free and includes some interesting new features for education such as real-time collaboration, multi-input support, OneNote Class Notebooks support, multi-themed education stickers and accessibility tweaks that include Ink Beautification and Ink Grab.

To get started, users need to download the apps then login into Whiteboard with Office 365 Education account and then enable "Education Preview", in the Settings menu.

As with most Microsoft preview services, the company is seeking feedback from users and encourages users to want to participate, to visit the Whiteboard for Education Facebook page to leave comments, suggestions, and complaints.
