TMBS Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Hi We moved our filtering from Smoothwall to Netsweeper (through Schools Broadband) last night. When they made the initial changes it knocked our VOIP phone system out, they were swapped back to Smoothwall so the engineer could call me. We then attempted the change again which knocked out Internet and VOIP whole site. Despite plugging the Smoothwall box back in and reverting all the settings back we still had no Internet or phones. I then couldn't call the helpdesk either so went home. Sent emails to Schools Broadband and our phone company last night. Phone company came in this morning, checked the system (which suddenly started working) and confirmed that there were no settings specific to Smoothwall, only our router and external IP. SB swapped over the settings again but didn't apply filtering so we could test but still no Internet access (all students have Internet disabled). We're an RM school too, just to add to the fun. Removed all proxy settings from my computer but I still can't connect to the Internet but I don't understand why? No filtering, no proxy settings, I've given it a static IP but nothing. I can access the Internet on our server though. What am I missing? Other than unplugging the Smoothwall box and removing their proxy settings is there anything else I need to remove? Thanks Tracey
FN-GM Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 VOIP should not be impacted by the filtering. The proxy monitors traffic on 80 and 443. VOIP uses 5060 & 5061. Is there a firewall as well as filtering here?
TMBS Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 Yes the firewall is Fortigate which is managed through Schools Broadband too.
FN-GM Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 It is more likely to be the firewall. I would look there.
TMBS Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 It is more likely to be the firewall. I would look there. I've raised that with Schools Broadband but am being told that no firewall changes have been made and it won't be causing an issue. Anything particular that I can tell them to check? I am right in thinking that if my computer has an IP assigned, subnet mask and gateway are correct and not filtering applied I should be able to get onto the Internet. I'm not sure why I can on the server though.... Thanks!
TMBS Posted December 5, 2017 Author Posted December 5, 2017 You were right! It was a rule on the Firewall. Working now, just have to check the filtering is applied correctly. Thanks for your help
