In a small school with just a few Windows 10 laptops all identical. Or they were.

The school has unifi network which is at 5.6.22

One laptop has stopped connecting to anything offered by unifi, yet its wireless can connect via my iphone hotspotting.

I've checked two machines against each other, wifi driver etc identical.

Problem machine is windows 10 version 1703 OS 15063.608 happy chappie (if happy and Windows 10 can go together!!) is 1703 and 15063.483

update - I've found another happy lappie on 15063.608 with same wifi device and driver as the problem PC...

UPDATE 2 - poorly lappie did a windows update on reboot (it was hard cabled in) and has come back as 15063.726 and still not connecting to the unifi network

I have tried disabling wireless and re-enabling, I've unistalled and re-installed the device and I've also bashed my head agianst the wall several times to no avail!!

On problem machine I have used windows tools to reset network, I'v done ipconfig -flush dns and netsh winsock reset

Always getting the same problem - after short delay it appears to connect, then drops then tries again then fails.

I'v added new wifi networks at unifi controller level, same problem all the time.

The machines are Lenovos with AMDa10 chipsets, Atheros QCA61x4 wireless and driver 4.0.2.262 dated 27/10/2016

Any suggestions?? Or are they all going to fail as Windows 10 updates??

Is this a radius authentication....LDAP..... or simple WPA2 key?

If one ofthe former..have you tried with a separate SSID on a simple WPA2?

There should be logs somewhere - both in Win10 ...and Unify....

Do use certificates to validate against the APs?

...just shooting in the dark really....As I am often heard to say about problems...there is nothing wrong...except it doesn't work.

Do you have any device access policies in place on your Wi-Fi?

I had an issue where lots of our Windows 10 laptops stopped connecting to our Ruckus 802.1x wlan where we had a device access policy in place. The policy only allowed Windows devices to connect to that WLAN, and at some point it stopped being able to recognise Windows 10 devices, so it blocked them from joining.

Just a thought

I've brought the laptop into another school that also has unifi, and I have a guest network here - again same problem. I will try Bios / firmware updates and see where that gets me - I did get the wireless driver from the lenovo site earlier today.

No clues in the laptop event log.

This has scuppered a thoughI had, in that somehow the laptop ahd got 'poisoned' info about its own network.

Yes, thank you, that is the link I used - I got there from the serial number.

Just running the bios and chipset utilities through..

Why does methink I'll be doing them all soon if this works ..

What I really cant figure is why its happy with my mobile hot spot?

I’m not aware of a policy like that in place. Other win10 (currently) talking happy. This machine chats to my mobile hot spot.. now where’s the bl**dy confused emoji

Well your mobile phone won't have any policies or the same hardware as the Unify setup - are there any logs on the Wireless controller or AP's you can look at.

My issue initially started with one device (a Surface Pro 4) and then just recently started to affect almost everything else that was running Windows 10 - and yet they were all at the same build level, so go figure!

I've run the bios update through, rebooted, thrown away device driver and re-installed, rebooted, ipconfig -flushdns and finally I'm seeing the internet on the laptop as a 'guest user' in the other school. Thanks folkss for the help and ideas - it's possibly the bios what done it!

Ah - i may have spoken too soon - its not a rock solid connection, but my mac beside it in the same school network (which is rock solid - touch wood) has had no hiccups ..
