Emulate Classlink's username-on-desktop

I'm looking at moving from a Viglen Classlink XP network () to a vanilla network ().

I'm not a fan of Classlink but its one redeeming feature is that when you login to a machine it puts the user's name and AD group in the corner of the desktop.

Anyone know how to do this without the need for classlink?

I assume its Active desktop related
