Hi Everyone,

Hoping that someone out there can help me because these 2 problems are driving me crazy. I am in the final stages of creating my own gpo to lock down the kids desktop, just two things I would like to do.

1) Disable the address bar in my computer/explorer. I have found a couple of reg keys to add in, but it doesn't seem to work every time. Anyone any ideas or use the 2 reg keys and able to give me some pointers or the way you do it?

2) Disable being able to double click on Start > Programs and then the folders within here. Because i'm using a redirected start menu when you double click it shows the full path on the server.

Any ideas on either or both would be great help.

Thanks!

The only way you can stop that is using classic start menu. It a Windows bug that Microsoft have decided not to fix.

2. Use the Classic Startmenu (iirc)

Thats how we got around it too, using the classic start menu. Plus that is what we use throughout the whole of the LA as standard. The powers that be believe it is more professional.....even in a school!

Anyway, it worked for us. Best of luck.

So long as you set the permissions on the redirected folder to "Read only" this shouldnt be a problem. It is what I have done. Plus, as the start menu and desktop on our system comes from DFS - they never see ther server names anyway. When working with redirected Start menu - well worth looking at DFS - one poor server will get beaten to death otherwise!

I cant remember where I have done the address bar in explorer windows. I must have done it somewhere though as we dont have this problem. I will look it up on Monday for you. I suspect it is probably something you will need to set in your default profile.

I am currently using the classic start menu, but you can still double click on the programs and then folders deeper in.

The new server that the startmenu will be directed to will be 2003 R2 so will play with DFS, thanks for that.

stuartwilkie if your able to see how you got rid of it that would be great. I think will have use a mandatory profile or somethin similar and put it in there.

Thanks for the help

I think this is in the Group Policy settings.
