Random Printing Problems

We are using multiple Vlans 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.19.0

 

Each are routed to the same gateway ( core switch )

 

As of the past few weeks i have been having very strange printer issues ( and it only seems to be affecting printers and not all of them, i think its only Sharp and HP )

 

The printers will randomly not be pingable from any vlan apart from the vlan the printer is on ! , and because the print server is on another vlan the printers will show offline and they cant print.

 

What i have found out is if when a printer is unpingable from "My office" vlan i can log into the switch of the offending printer and ping it from there and it comes back to life ! .

 

Any one had this issue before ? seems to me like a "Core" issue as it seems vlan/gateway related.

Scrap that Pinging the printer from the switch does not seem to affect it .

 

Seems to be a core issue with possibly just one of the cores ( switches in areas are trunked across two Cores)

 

Just cant ping it down to why it seems only printers ? i would assume machines will also be going offline all the time.
