Hello everyone.

I am currently a IT Technician at a Primary School, and would like to move up to become a IT Network Manager in a educational setting in the future.

Which appropriate IT training certifications would help me achieve this? I have done some research and there are so many to choose from so I would like like info on the core 'must have' certifications I should be aiming for. ITIL seems to be a popular certification, is it worth having this?

Also lastly many of the courses I have seen online are web based, can anyone recommend a online provider?

Thanks in advance :)

Without knowing what your current skillset is, it's difficult to make any certification recommendations.

There are plenty of Network Manager job adverts here on EduGeek so I would suggest you take a look at as many as you can and look for things a lot of them ask for and if you haven't got that experience then that's the thing to find a course on to learn! :)

And don’t forget that Network Management is about strategic as well as technical skills.

Staff management, work planning, budget planning and and management, liaison with suppliers, contractors, management, governors and colleagues (in a different way to just fixing what’s gone wrong)...

These are things you may need to get written into your appraisal objectives so you are given to grow yourself to the next stage
