[ltsb, 1607] Folder redirection failing on second login?

We're currently having some issues with Folder Redirection on Windows 10 (we are using Windows 10 LTSB 2016, version 1607).

We have a GPO configured to redirect the Documents folder to the user's home directory.

This works great the first time the user logs on to a Windows 10 machine, but the second and subsequent times they log on, we are seeing it showing as C:\Users\username\Documents instead of the redirected folder.

As standard users do not have access to the C: drive, if they click Documents to access this location, they get an "Action cancelled" error message.

Can anyone suggest what might be the problem?

I have checked:

 

• "Grant the user exclusive rights to Documents" is unticked
  
• "Move the contents of Documents to the new location" is unticked
  
• "Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed" is selected
  
• Enabled Group Policy debug logging using GPSvcDebugLevel registry value set to 0x30002 - Folder Redirection extension is returning 0x0

Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed == on

 

 

See if the redirection is applying 2nd time with rsop.msc - any errors or is it not applying ?

 

Also, try testing redirecting the folder to somewhere other than their home directory.

It did not work at all (not even the first time) with "Grant the user exclusive rights to Documents == on". Though we would not want them to have full control on this folder anyway.

 

I have tried it with "Move the contents of Documents to the new location == on" however this did not seem to make any difference.

 

I already have "Leave the folder in the new location when policy is removed == on" set.

 

 

EDIT: It looks like we have been able to work around this issue by enabling "Delete cached copies of roaming profiles" in Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles.

Same issue here. 2nd login doesn’t even show folder redirection occurring in eventvwr if local existing profile on PC. If I delete the profile and user logs on again it re-applies fine. Seems some kind of optimised logon is occuring. I’ll keep playing and come back to you!
