Hi, Some of the staff connect to the schools Google domain from their personal phones. Currently it has not been a big issue as its only been for email but I am looking at moving all the servers data to Google Drive and want to take some control, but not too much.

I am really hesitant about setting anything up that takes control of personal devices, as I remember reading a post about someone accidentally blocking all the apps installed on all the personal phones for his entire school, something I do not want to repeat.

What I am trying to achieve is a way of removing the schools data from the personal phone if they get sold or stolen, I do not want to control the apps they can install from the store.

Currently on the school owned Android tablets I manually install Google Apps device policy and approve them in gsuite, so I do have some of the basics setup.

My first question is, can this be automated? So if a teachers tries to connect to the schools email or drive it chucks up a message, you must first install xyz app.

I have no experience with this, but can you not simply use the GSuite MDM options? Main problems will be implementing it when many devices may not be compliant (old android stuff) etc.
