Wireless performance/signal on 802.1x network

Hi,

 

We use a Meru system and have in the past just had WPA2 PSK networks. During Summer we changed to 802.1x authentication with AD logons.

 

Since then we have been getting reports of wireless not working in some areas which used to be "fine". They are generally in classrooms that don't have an access point in the room but are surrounded by other classrooms with one. The old WPA2 SSID connects fine but the 802.1x SSID is a little more picky about having decent signal strength.

 

Is that possible, likely etc or totally unheard of before?

Do you also have band steering enabled? I often find that troublesome...client starts connection....AP discovers it’s 5G capable...and shoves client off ....only for the 5G signal to be too weak to be useable. It’s a fault of bandsteering implementation really. Anyhow...Meru should be able to interpret the logs and tell you exactly what’s happening...and advise what parameters to change to mitigate against this.
