My son, who is heavily into retro gaming has told me he wants a Dreamcast. I was going to get a used Xbox 360 as a surprise Xmas pressie which can be picked up for a similar amount.

If any of you have one which is gathering dust and you'd like to sell on to a good home please let me know :)

as above i think the drive on mine is dying bought a new pgr disc as i presumed it was that but it seems to be getting worse

Mine is, easy way to find out is to close the lid slowly until it says "reading" on screen, if the drive spins then adjust the potentiometer, if it doesn't then tape the door switch post.

YMMV of course, don't blame me if it doesn't work!

i think its more than that it keeps "disowning" the disc midplay so game crashes/quite wont restart until open close

The discs themselves are a nightmare too. I've never had the disc drive failure though. There's always plenty of dreamcast bundles on ebay.

Thanks for the replies, I may just get the 360 then and he can 'wait'.

On Gumtree you can pick them up for about £30 - £40 around here but Ebay seems to have a lot of chancers on there asking up to £100 for a console only!

Alternatively you can preserve your drive by accessing games through other methods...

I had noticed on Ebay several vendors offering more efficient and alternative methods of accessing games for very little outgoings.

I shall see just what is available at the end of the month then make my decision.

On another note, I have just picked up a broken ZX81 for pennies which I intend to have framed to go on my wall.

I'll post up the results and if all is good will repeat with a ZX Spectrum :)

Would now be a good time to offer up my entire games console for sale? NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube, Wii. Sega Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS 1, PS 2, PS 3.

@Dos_Box - I have the Dreamcast sat in my office at work if you would like pictures? (If you are interested)

Only need the Saturn from that lot :D

My Old Man wouldn't let me take the Saturn with me when i moved out, and it generally now sits around gathering dust...unless I'm there beating him at Sega Rally. :(

Dreamcast was an outstanding console, with straight arcade conversions, Soulcalibur2 on there and crazy taxi are in my top ten all time computer games list, it was marred by the inclusion of its 33.6k modem I felt, considering 56k was the norm at the time
