Longest range outdoor aerial?

Hi Everyone,

 

 

What is the longest range outdoor aerial available?

 

searching the internet they all claim different things.

 

The best I have found was a Hawking

HAO9SIP which claimed 2.4KM line of sight with 9DBI at 2.4GHZ ,

 

followed by

this at 1.5 miles 8DBI

For what use?

 

Many PtP link will do 5km but throughout will be less at greater lengths.

 

What distance do you need to cover?

its to connect building to building with no direct line of site (trees / fences in the way), wanted to see if i mounted an aerial high enough it could pick up the signal of the main building, to keep costs down i just wanted 1 aerial ,not one at each end.

happy with any recommendations

Don’t think it’ll work.

You really need line of sight and a proper PtP link

Look at the ubinquiti kit - the 900mhz stuff some claim is good but failing that a couple of isostations or nanostations may do it anyway - will be a case of "suck it and see" if you have no LOS.

400 metres roughly - maybe less

A pair of Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco M2 MIMO, PtP/PtMP Bridge, Base Station should do this ok (better at 2.4ghz than 5) althouh i make no guarantees - this is purely back of a fag packet but thers enough signal to do a useabale connection at that range.

 

but at the price you can try it.

A good tool for longer links but short links are tricky - particularly as it doesnt account for trees/builings etc etc.

We have a ptp link using ubiquiti nanostations to the back of our field for access control and cctv. This gives us a 300mb out of a possible 300mb. I would assume your trees/fencing in the way wouldn’t affect the performance that much.

300 meters. Very easy to install and the management webpage for the ubiquiti kit has a alignment tool which helps you get best signal.

Fencing shouldn't cause too much of an issue, but trees will, although not so much in winter.

 

I've put 2 links in in the past using ubiquiti bridges, one was around a mile and line of sight and worked fine. The other was only a few hundred meters between my house and the school, but through a line of trees. It worked fine in the winter, but failed completely when the trees were in full leaf in mid summer.
