PrintAudit software

Hi,

Just got a new photocopier and the supplier wants us to install PrintAudit software.

It seems this software will ping out IPs and search for print devices. Once found it will use SNMP to pull the data back and then send on to their website.

 

Anyone use this software as I don't fancy them going through the whole network.

Anyway to just direct it to the printer IP?

And block all other IPs?

I'm not familiar with this particular software, but this from the website you linked.

 

• The Information Collection Engine (ICE) uses unicast transmission to communicate to each IP address in the configured scan range. No broadcast packets are sent.
  

 

We have two print contracts, one for mfp and the other for all the laser jets. They each wanted to me install their own software, I've configured each to only look at the devices we have on contract with them.

Yes, the provider can remove any devices from it that you do not wish to monitor. Although, it’s actually useful to have them on there as you can run reports.

 

The supplier can just feed in specified IP addresses too.

You should be VLAN-ing off your printers then traffic won’t go all over.

I think only the Photocopier company can do that from the software website.

All you get is a service that runs on the machine, with a view of the logs.

No config available locally.

Yes, that is correct. Just tell them to exclude the devices you don’t want.

We didn't trust one of our suppliers to do this and ultimately said no. We've got two providers for photocopiers (long story) and one of the pros the supplier mentioned was the "opportunity to reduce costs for our other copiers and printers". They've got a web reporting tool and the finance office use that instead. Edited October 30, 2017 by Chockster
