LaserCAM A2+ Settings

Hi everyone. I recently signed up on this forum. I was hoping if anybody here can help me with Techsoft's LaserCAM A2+ Settings for engraving and cutting genuine leather. Been trying it out for some time now with no success. The leather gets burned in different power and speed settings.

 

Leather is not included on the list of materials for cutting and engraving on the user manual for the laserCAM.

 

Your help would be very much appreciated.

When your engraving it will burn the leather and it will smell horrible. You may also need to seal the leather if it is going to come in to contact with water (e.g. a jacket).

 

Leather is tough so cutting it will need high power and low speed it would be useful to know the wattage of your laser, im guessing 30watt? - try the kind of setting you would use for cutting MDF (100% power, 2% to 5% speed) see what happens?

Hi @papsychael when cutting leather on my schools LC A2+ printer I use the following settings,

 

Cutting:

power- 90

speed- 4

 

Engraving Light (only)

Power- 80 / 85

Speed- 80

 

Also helps to double check auto level, but as @AButters said it does smell horrible but it seals it to rain which is a good thing.

 

Edit: The settings also depend on what machine you have. The settings above are for the 30W version, if you have the 60W version you may benefit by bringing those above settings down.

Sorry I forgot to mention the wattage. You are correct, I'm using the 30 watt lasercam. I've tried using that setting before but it didn't work. It didn't pass through the leather so I did it twice. It was successfully cut but the edges are burnt.

What do you mean by checking the auto level?

When looking at the menu on the Laser cutter you have four options. If you go (System Setup) ----> (Position Setup) ----> (Auto Focus) this should help focusing the laser better for a more solid cut / Engrave.

 

What program are you using on the computer that connects to the Laser Cutter?

Hi hunter. I already did the auto focus. Unfortunately, that is also one of my problem. Before, when cutting 3mm acrylic, I'm using 100% power and 3% speed and it works just fine. And just last week, when I try to cut using same setting, it did not cut through the acrylic sheet.

 

Going back to leather cutting, I'm using 2D design and corel draw. I've read in another forum that there is an air assist in some laser cutter to help cut out leather, are you aware if it is also available to lasercam?

I see, if you are getting different results with cutting when using the same material, it can be either alignment issues, cleaning issues or focusing.

 

With Air Assist it is used to clean the work area and protect the lens from dust. It is also a fire prevention method when cutting fabrics, but can remove smoke out of the lasers path for a better quality cut / engrave. I am not sure if air assist is available for laser cam machine at the moment sadly .

 

I personally don't use Air Assist and find when I cut leather it is fine, I would really recommend checking the alignments are correct as a small bump can push it out. Let me know how you get on with the above settings for leather, Fingers crossed it will help .

I use air assist (conical) on my Laser and it works very well - not only does it protect the lens from burning, it blows smoke out the way of the laser to give better results, and it actually ever so slightly cools the surface your lasering onto which can make a difference. It's most useful on materials that burn (wood, leather, etc) I don't use it when engraving glass/slate/granite etc as they don't smoke.

Can anyone tell me why red text on LaserCamm 2D turns black on cutter screen and only engraves?
