Having a bizarre issue here at the minute where the students machines are regularly refusing to launch internet explorer. Clicking the icon does nothing, rebooting solves it sometimes. Today i went into class where 2 girls where having the issue, reboot didn't fix it. I logged on and was fine for me so i removed the local copies of the mandatory profile that it had via the proper userprofiles panel in system properties and this resolved it.

Then got a call to another IT room and all were having the same issue. All machines are fully up to date managed via WSUS.

The only thing i can think it might be is Sophos AV, i have recently moved from on premises to the cloud version and installed InterceptX as well.

Have seen this link here and this one here where it talks about stopping the dlls from loading via regedit.

Has anyone had any similar issues?

Just out of curiosity do you get lot's of temp profiles in c:\users ? We are having a similar issue and I'm having problems with temp profiles. Think it's related to the profile but haven't had chance to fully look into it yet.

A corrupt mandatory profile possibly?

Bit of a coincidence that its only started happening since i installed Sophos & InterceptX though so dont think its that.

I've had the same mandatory profile for students for about 5 years now and never had any issues with it.
