Setting up send and receive rules for Office 365 students

Hi;

 

We are rolling out a ADFS Hybrid Office 365 deployment at the moment

 

Staff are successfully using Outlook 365, at the moment SMT do not want students to have use of emails, but I need a mailbox for them to look at calender etc.

 

Is there an easy way of setting up a rule so students belonging to year groups in AD has emails blocked, incoming and outgoing, without effecting staff mail flow?

Yep just setup a rule that says if email is sent from group "students" reject with explanation "blah no student!" (Can do same with the ones coming inwards too if you wanted, but don't you want staff to be able to contact students?)

Been playing with some rules, seems a bit flakey (or my lack of experience!)

 

For example the following rule should work blocking external incoming or outgoing email from external senders right?

No, they're "ands"

 

You're trying to block external people who are sending to external people and who are students

 

You want 2 rules, one being external->students, and one being students->external/anyone etc

Can someone sanity check this rule for me? I have managed to stop external people sending mail to students belonging to allstudents AD group

 

but the rule im setting to stop students sending out to external or internal doesn't seem to work? Student can still send emails externally and internally :

Have changed the allstudents group from distribution to security group to see if it makes a difference...

The group will need to be a Distribution group or a mail enabled security group.

 

However, the rule is complete. You need to add an additional parameter so the rule is something like:

 

The sender is a member of .......

and

The destination is External (or something similar to this)

 

You would then create two rules one for external and one for internal
