The thing is, it's actually relatively simple to add a network location to OneDrive for Business without the client.

 

- Add https://school-my.sharepoint.com/ to Intranet Sites via a GPO for your users. Then ask your users to perform the following -

 

- Launch Internet Explorer and sign into O365, remembering to tick 'Keep me signed in'

 

- Navigate to OneDrive and wait for it to load

 

- Copy the URL: https://school-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_school_domain/ then add Documents to the end, so it reads:

 

https://school-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_school_domain/Documents

 

- Navigate to This PC > Computer (tab) > Add a network location

 

- Select Next > Next >, then copy/paste your URL and click Next >

 

- Give your site a friendly name, click Next > then Finish.

Still using WebDAV which is nasty on larger files, uploads particularly are incredibly slow

Try unticking "automatically find settings" on the internet explorer proxy page.

 

Its a well known bug with windows for slow webdav. It gets fast once you do that setting.

Its a well known bug with windows for slow webdav. It gets fast once you do that setting.

Except we use that for our proxy rules with wpad files so needs to be on. Ironically that had to be turned on as Outlook and some other apps wouldn't play nicely with manual proxy settings.

 

That said it didn't feel that much better even on a machine with direct connection. Also the way it copies to local drive temp folder and then uploads after wasn't convincing either.
