Weird folders being created

I've had 1000's of folders created on my main network share where the teachers save their planning work.

 

Sophos isn't picking them up as anything dodgy and if I open the folder it has another folder 'Smart Notebook' and that folder contain the a ToolsMenu.xml file

 

Does anyone know why this has started happening? It doesn't seem to be causing any issues other than inconveniencing me because I have to search for them and delete them.

Have you tried copying and pasting the text in to Google to see if that brings anything up?

what username is the creator of the folders? Go check their computer

it just comes up with results about unicode

You could also try Computer Management -> Open Files on the server to see if there's a particular user or computer attached to them, to help you track down the source.
