SIMS / SQL Time out error

Hi all;

 

My data manager is trying to delete a duplicated student record. It times out with a database query error, every single time, on different PCs, after school, during school etc.

 

I got her to try to delete another student, takes a while but works.

 

Capita has a standard cookie cutter reply to run re indexing patches

 

I'm thinking it's more a field or record that SIMS is locked out from preventing a deletion. I have attached the error. Any SIMS / SQL advice welcome! Last thing I want is run all the re indexing patches and still let her down....

I would do a quick check on the sql servers memory and cpu usage as that can cause time out error if they are almost maxing.

I've found that these sort of things can sometimes be done straight after you re-start the SQL service on the server as this throws everyone and everything out of SIMS (though some log back in very quickly).

Whats the timeout setting on your Sims connect.ini file on the workstations?

 

This is ours:

[sIMSConnection]

ServerName=ourserver\sims2014

DatabaseName=sims

commandtimeout=100000

 

It could be that it is actually timing out as the SQL instruction is taking too long to run.

I set the timeout at = 100000 as well...I try deleting this student at different hours during the day, on different PCs, same error gets thrown up... we try another student, deletes ok... strange but I have a funny feeling Capita's suggestion is a standard KB article they blanket send.. although it would be good to run a reindex.. our MDF is 27GB !

You could be right, it does seem rather large, ours is only 4GB
