Windows 7 - some machines black screen on logon.

I know it's been covered here before but just over the past 10 days a few PC's have been coming up with a black screen when the users first log on. Doing a restart then logging on again and all is okay.

I thought I'd got to the bottom of the issue and resolved it by carrying out the very latest updates but on a few PCs the problem still persists?

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks are duly given for the suggestion ShellfishClive. Yes, we do have scripts running but oddly the occurrence of this incident seems to be entirely related to the workstations it impacts upon. My suspicion was an MS update was rogue but other clients at the same update stage aren't affected. It is only happening to around 6 of our client workstations which are, Dell, Fujitsu and Lenovo. Consistently if when it happens either we remote restart or the user forces a restart it's then a clean logon.

I have seen people around saying that they have been having issues with the new Windows updates, so I think that might be the case. If you have an older version without the latest updates you could try that and see if you still have the issues.

Hopefully Microsoft are working on this and will be rolling out an update that corrects the situation. Strange that it only hits some clients and that thankfully so far it seems a simple restart clears the issue?
