Neville Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I want to create an All Staff distrubtion group but only allow certain members to use this group, how do i set this up?.
fooby Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 1. create distribution group 2. set exchange permissions in active directory to only allow certain users to access. all in active directory - easy peasy you can also create a query based distribution group (recommended) that looks at the OU your staff user accounts are held and this will automatically update as new staff join / leave based on their account existing in the OU. right click, new, distribution group or query based distribution group in active dir, if the option isnt there remote desktop to your exchange box and open AD users there. hth
srochford Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 Create your group in the normal way, add users and then on the "Exchange General" tab in AD Users and Computers, select the "accept messages only from" and enter the people you want. Query Based Distribution groups can be useful for "allstaff" - create it and set the filter to be "users with Exchange mailbox". That way, as soon as someone new joins they get added to the all staff list (on average, we have 1 new member of staff per day; automating this kind of thing really helps!) What we've also done is use one of the "custom attributes" on users (they're on the Exchange Advanced tab in a user's properties) and set the value to "NotInAllStaff". The filter is then set so that the user is only included if Custom Attribtue 1 is not set to that value. This makes it easy to exclude "odd people" at any time.
