enjay Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 The wifi has stopped working on one of our staff iPads. Any suggestions for trying to resolve this before sending it off for repair? We've already tried "reset network settings" but that didn't help. We considered a full reset of the device, but can't do that because Find My iPad is enabled, and you need to verify your AppleID creds to turn that off, which I can't do without wifi! Same problem via iTunes, it says to turn Find My iPad off from the device first. I get you want to make it difficult to reset an iPad, so they're less desirable to steal but surely there's a way to crack into my own iPad?!
Steve21 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Did it stop working at all, or just stop connecting to a wifi network? (As in but still shows as active and finding them etc) Steve
SamanthaD Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Tried a hard reset? With iPad off, push and hold power and home for 10 secs (until Apple logo appears).

Steve21 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 I get that But what I meant was no wifi as in, it isn't broadcasting/picking up networks or whether it's not connecting to a wireless network but can see them/find devices etc etc Just in regards to whether it's more likely a setting higher or lower etc. Steve

Brimstone Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Sorry, wifi is turned off and won't let me turn it on. You can turn FMI off from the web as well, have you tried?
difinity Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Have you tried resetting the network settings ? Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
enjay Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 You can turn FMI off from the web as well, have you tried? Didn't know that. Doesn't help though, because the iPad itself still thinks FMI is enabled, so won't let me wipe it. - - - Updated - - - Have you tried resetting the network settings ? Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings Yes, no joy.
Brimstone Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 You need one of these.... Lightning Ethernet Cable (L2-NET) 1
enjay Posted September 22, 2017 Author Posted September 22, 2017 You need one of these.... Lightning Ethernet Cable (L2-NET) Interesting. I wondered about that but figured it wouldn't exist. £35 on Amazon, that might just be the winner...
Steve21 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) If you haven't tried it yet one of the things to often reset wireless, turn on airplane mode and DND on. Turn off for 15 mins (Yes don't skimp on the time ), then return on and disable dnd/airplane Often doing the normal disable etc via control centre doesn't really turn it off, just puts it into a standby as such. I'm not sure that is the right part. They very clearly say that apps need to be built with their bespoke API to make use of the ethernet connection. The "standard" way to do this is via the apple lightening camera adapter, which gives you a USB port, and then connect the USB Ethernet adapter. https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/12444/ethernet-connection-for-ipads https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT202034

Perhaps not, but this one an Amazon looks good - https://www.amazon.co.uk/FOINNEX-Aluminum-Lightning-Ethernet-Internet/dp/B073GW2V3R What is odd is it says it isn't suitable for the Mini series, despite being a Lightning. Well, the description says that but the product images say it is okay!I might get one and see what happens...
rad Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Have you tried taking a backup of one that does work and restoring it to this device?
enjay Posted September 26, 2017 Author Posted September 26, 2017 Have you tried taking a backup of one that does work and restoring it to this device? No joy. You can't restore to an iPad if Find My iPad is enabled. Unfortunately, somewhere in the process of testing this, I managed to restore their backup onto my iPad, so I now I need to wipe that too!!
