Redirected Desktop

Hi,

 

Could anyone confirm if the following is expected behaviour, or if I've made a mistake somewhere?

 

We are redirecting the users desktop to a ReadOnly network shared, as result of this users are able to pin items to the taskbar (Explorer, Chrome, etc). However, after rebooting the pinned taskbar items disappear. Load one of the previously pinned applications and right click the taskbar item, the option to 'Unpin from taskbar' is available suggesting that Windows has remembered the pinned item.

 

If we simply change the users desktop to a writeable location the issue no longer exists and the taskbar icons remain after a reboot, is this by design? This is on Windows 10, 1607 and 1703.

I'd hazard a guess it may be because it loads the taskbar then the redirected shortcuts after so could cause an issue?

 

Also, we had an issue pinning items when a few machines didn't activate windows successfully
