FN-GM Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Hello, I have had this issue for a while and its starting to annoy me! The group policy settings for the chrome homepage doesn't work. I set the homepage URL here - User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Homepage > Configure the home page URL This setting or the home button doesn't work. It just launches the attached. I set the homepage URL here - User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Homepage > Use New Tab Page as homepage Any ideas please? Thanks
Steve21 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) We have the homepage URL configured, but the New Tab page as homepage disabled. As doesn't that override the other one? Also set on start-up to open a list of URLs that is the homepage, as otherwise it's only if they click home etc So > Google->Google Chrome->HomePage->URL->"MyHomepage" Google->Google Chrome->HomePage->Use New Tab->Disabled Google->Google Chrome->StartUp Pages->Action->Open URL Google->Google Chrome->StartUp Pages->URLs to open->"MyHomepage" Steve Edited September 14, 2017 by Steve21

I only recently noticed that it won't start up on the homepage unless you tell it to!
Steve21 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 We just do 3 of those. I only recently noticed that it won't start up on the homepage unless you tell it to! But Chrome is the way forward!!! But in all seriousness I think it remembers the last page you had open if it it isn't selected right? (Don't ever use Chrome Yes I'm one of those!) Steve
FN-GM Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 I have specified the startup URLS manually as we have 2. Will that make a difference? Thanks
Steve21 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Manually in what sense? In the image? You can add multiple startup URLs in the GPO, it's just a listbox etc Steve
FN-GM Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 I have set the URLs in the startup page GPO. I haven't told them to use the homepage. Cheers
Steve21 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 From your original post the issue you have is you've specific both I'd say. If you check the "Use new tab page" info it says: If you enable this setting, the New Tab Page is always used for the home page, and the home page URL location is ignored. You can either force disable that, or leave it un-enabled, but can't have both selected Steve 1
LeMarchand Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 But Chrome is the way forward!!! But in all seriousness I think it remembers the last page you had open if it it isn't selected right? (Don't ever use Chrome Yes I'm one of those!) Steve Just checked; didn't seem to. Had to check as I'm one of "those" too (hence not noticing the problem). Google knows enough about me without giving them my entire browsing history/habits! Firefox FTW! (For the moment - more and more useful add-ons seem to be giving up due to the changes Mozilla have instituted).

If you check the "Use new tab page" info it says: You can either force disable that, or leave it un-enabled, but can't have both selected Steve This was it. I read it as "make the new tab page the same as homepage" I had to specifically disable it for it to work. Leaving it as not configured didn't work.
Steve21 Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Aye seems a silly option, not sure why they don't have just one "option" with both as a dropdown etc rather than two that affect eachother, but hey ho at least it's working Steve
Manny-Tech Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Has anyone worked out how to have a new tab as your homepage rather than going straight to the Google search?
LeMarchand Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Has anyone worked out how to have a new tab as your homepage rather than going straight to the Google search? Not doing it myself, but User>Admin Templates>Google>Google Chrome>New Tab Page> Configure the New Tab page URL looks promising. 2
Manny-Tech Posted May 2, 2018 Posted May 2, 2018 Not doing it myself, but User>Admin Templates>Google>Google Chrome>New Tab Page> Configure the New Tab page URL looks promising. Spot on! I just had to update my Chrome ADMX/ADML templates to get that setting.
