timbo343 Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Since moving to Office365,we've seen a massive leap in our bandwidth usage for our users that user Office365. This morning i cam in early to see who/what was pulling down the most bandwidth and it would seem that outlook likes to update all the folders all the time. I've had outlook profiles in Online mode, this causes headaches, and now i've tried to put them in cached mode, this too still causes headaches. At 7:50 this morning there were less than 40 staff logged on and we were hitting 30mb. Looking at the smoothwall traffic graphs, one machine was pulling down 12mb - this was the machine that outlook was updating the folders. What's the best way to get round this and what settings in outlook do other schools have? Thanks
Homer Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Is this where they've just logged in or a constant issue? I manage the cached mode with GPO to only be a month so it doesn't pull too much data down on a new logon, and also to limit how much it pulls down if they log in after a period of inactivity. You may also find this with users who have excessively large mailboxes...
timbo343 Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 I found the GPO too which is set to Cached but, yes. it's usually on a morning or first time they open outlook and it performs the sync. I just dont know what option to choose, cache or online.
Homer Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Stick with cached, I used to run online but Outlook is very sensitive to any issues with internet connectivity or issues with the O365 servers and can hang/be ridiculous... I didn't want to use cached but I had to in the end. 1
