[ms office - 2016] PowerPoint - Presenter View causing display issues

Hi all,

 

We upgraded to Office 2016 over the summer and I've just noticed a common issue people have been complaining about.

 

By default presenter view (under the slideshow tab) is ticked in PowerPoint which causes the display settings to change to extended when a presentation starts. Problem is, when you're done with the presentation it doesn't go back to duplicate.

 

Only way to turn this off that I know of is by manually going to every teacher machine whilst they're logged on and turning it off which would be fine if the classes were not used by multiple teachers.

 

Anyone know of a way I can sort this problem out?

 

I googled and there is a way to do it in the registry but that only seems to work for Office 2013. I also cannot find a GPO setting for this.

 

Anyone else come across this issue?

We have a problem where it goes back to "monitor only" after the powerpoint instead of going back to "clone", never seen it before running win 10 enterprise 1607 with office 2016 (problem didn't exist on win 10 LTSB 1511 with office 2016).

 

If you have the office 2016 ADMX files on your group policy the only one I've managed to find is this:

 

User\Policies\Admin Templates\Microsoft PowerPoint 2016\PowerPoint Options\Advanced\Do not allow PowerPoint to automatically extend display when presenting on a laptop or tablet

 

which we set to "enable" and now it just stays cloned, even on a PC.

I've just tested it on a laptop and it worked.

I've also found another solution to our Win 10 display problems, not sure if it is coincidence that powerpoint was playing up or not, but since they changed it so Win 10 won't talk to WSUS unless you allow it to get driver updates, a VGA driver update went on which has made Windows "forget" display configuration every restart. I've uninstalled this driver (dated 2015) then re-installed the one that was in our image (dated 2012) and the problems have gone away.

 

I've since made sure display drivers never get approved so hopefully I can convince the WSUS server to allow me to search for the driver, then approve for removal, but it's currently not responding whenever I search
