Visual Studio 2017 - UNC access denied issue

Hi all,

 

We currently have an issue with students and staff being unable to run their own VS projects when saved to a network drive. When they open the project, it's fine, but upon execution a popup gives an 'access denied' error. Seems ok as a domain admin, but don't know what permission is preventing access to which file/folder. They have full access permissions to their folders, and we've tried many things to no avail.

 

At the moment, the workaround is to save to USB and work from there, but we can't allow this during their set coursework/exam periods. Has anyone had this issue and any ideas about how to resolve it?

 

Basically I'm open to suggestions, as we're really quite stumped!

Sorry not much help here but i am also having the exact same problem. I am currently investigating it myself and if i find anything ill add it here, any input from others will be highly appreciated.

 

Edit: So far i have found fresh new created projects are working fine and run without problems but projects that have been created in earlier versions seem to give me access denied issues. I get the same results using local drives, USB sticks and network drives but still investigating.

I actually made some progress with this issue (but forgot I posted here too). There's an option to get this working again, but it comes at a sacrifice. People are now theorising it's down to 'list folder contents' permission on the folder above the project.

In a nutshell (for now), you need to enable 'use managed compatibility mode' in the debugging>general section of VS2017 options.

Thanks for your help with this i will have a look into your suggestion hopefully this will get a permanent fix from Microsoft soon.
