The Yellow Pages will stop printing from January 2019 after more than five decades, its owner Yell has announced.

 

Yell has taken the decision to fully digitise the business, ending the publication’s 51-year run. The first of the 104 final editions will be distributed in Kingston in January 2018, and the last will be sent out a year later in Brighton, where it was first published in 1966.

 

The company will print 23m copies of the final editions, which Yell hopes will become a souvenir...

I'm not sure how I feel about this - the Yellow Pages has been a household staple for decades, but it's been getting smaller and smaller in recent years and now when it lands on my doorstep I feel really guilty. It's silly but I kind of feel sorry for it - it rarely even gets taken out of the plastic bag, or if it does, it's so I can put it straight in the recycle bin.

I kind of agree that it's past its sell by date now.

 

The ones delivered to school got used as monitor stands and I haven't looked at one in years! The same goes for the Thompson directories and the ordinary telephone directory.

 

End of an era, but these directories have served their purpose.
