Multiple machines to deploy to,should I use driver injection or build separate images

Hi all,

 

I have various different Dell machines that I need to re-image as they are getting a bit tired. Some desktops (a mixture of 3010 and 3020s) and a mixture of laptops from early Latitude 5530s/5540s to newer 3840s which are brand new,

 

I'll be using Windows 7 but for some of the newer machines I will probably just stick to Windows 10 for ease of deployment (pxe driver issues etc)

 

I'm just wondering whether it will be best to build a basic Windows 7 image with the stuff I need i.e Office 2016 some other school related apps and then add all the specific drivers to WDS or whether i should build one of each type of machine up with all the drivers properly installed and then sysprep those images and use them depending on which laptop I need to image.

 

I have around 100 laptops / desktops to do.

 

any pointers would be great!

If you're going to have multiple OSs I wouldn't even bother putting Office etc into the images, else you'll need to keep updating two images. Might as well just use one deployment to both sets.

 

I'd always deploy drivers into WDS etc, as makes it a lot easier to change/update/fix them if there are any issues without needing to reimage machines constantly

We're currently using WDS on its own, but I want to move to WDS/MDT. We're currently buidling department/HW based images and it's a lot of a extra work. Once our Summer W10 is done, I'll be moving to MDT and pushing out raw W10 media for sure.
