Licence a PC for Windows 10 that comes with no OS.

Hi all

A member of staff is about to buy a gaming PC for her son, but the PC comes with no OS.

Has anyone heard on On The Hub? It seems to be linked to Microsoft (but I'm not totally sure how), and I'm not sure if this is a full licence, or an upgrade.

I'm basically looking for the cheapest legal way to get her a copy of Windows 10.

Looks like it's just a "front end" for the MS Home Use Program (and other similar schemes from other developers), so it's dependant on this being covered by your volume licensing, and may "expire" or something when he your school.

 

Or Amazon do an OEM key for about £8

On the Hub is the US version of Software4Students I think. You must be able to provide evidence of being registered at an academic institution it knows about. No good for Brits.

Looks legit to me. According to Amazon, it's from Microsoft direct.

It's just they key emailed to you. And it's OEM, so no MS support or reinstalling on other hardware. (On my home PC, I went through about 5 or 6 OEM keys over the life of windows XP due to upgrades - When I upgraded to win7 I bought a single retail key and it was probably about the same price over the life of the OS)

One of our deputy's sons built a pc recently and used one of those cheapo Oem licences from amazon, I couldn't see anything wrong with it and the majority of the reviews seem positive. He purchased one and got the licence he was expecting both via email and post, all activated and recognised as genuine.

 

I've brought oem licences from ebuyer before and paid just over £100, I'm not quite sure how they sell that cheaply but figured you can't go far wrong for the price and there's nothing around suggesting it's not legit as far as I can see bar the tiny number of negative reviews about not getting licences etc etc

On the hub is ms portal for home use, you need your reseller to set it up I believe and then people can buy stuff off there using their school email addresses, we had it when I worked in school, you could buy products cheap too

Either I read it wrong (in which case, sorry, my bad:(), or the listing automatically updates seller when one runs out.

Either way, I don't see a problem with using a 3rd party, just pick one with a high seller rating.

It looks to me like the £150 one is a full retail copy rather than OEM, and they're always going to be more expensive.

We have an 'On the Hub' site and we are in the UK. It was set up for us by Kivuto. When you go to the site it includes UK as an option.
