Reinstall OSX El Capitan

Hello,

 

I am wanting to erase and install a new copy of Mac OSX El Capitan on a 2008 iMac. I can't use Macos Sierra as it isn't supported on this hardware.

 

How do I go about creating a USB please? Apple only seem to provide the installers for Sierra.

If you have previously "purchased" El Capitan from the Mac App Store you could download the installer on another Mac and then use Install Disk Creator to create a bootable USB flash drive for the 2008 iMac.

2008 iMacs don't have Internet Recovery.

 

There's a firmware update available for Mid-2010 iMacs that add the Internet Recovery feature, but nothing for older models.

It had OS X Yosemite on before. I think I might have found a way of doing it. Will report back.
