[sccm 2012] SCCM upgrade to R2?

What do you need to upgrade your SCCM server to 2012 R2 and which installer do you need from the volume licencing site?

Not sure if you can still get the 2012R2 version of SCCM on the Volume Licensing site as that's quite old now. 1702 is the latest version that we're on so unless you have a specific reason to go to 2012R2 then I'd suggest going to this version instead.

 

From what I understand to get to the latest version you need to get 2012 to at least the 1511 version first and then you can upgrade to 1702.

Yes I found it on the volume licensing portal just look at the prerequisites. Don't know if anyone can explain the sql requirements? I going from 2012 to 1702 so a massive jump.

If anyone else is looking search for "System Center Config Mgr" on the volume licencing site. I have update the SQL to 2016 from 2008 R2 but I had to apply SP3 to get there. I am now waiting for 1606 to install and then I will look at going to 1702.

Do I need to reinstall or upgraded WDS once I have upgraded the SCCM server as I am now on SCCM 1702? I seem to be having an issue where it said waiting for policy but adding a boot image to WDS made it work. I have now added in the latest Windows 10 PE image for boot.

Yes, you need to uninstall WDS and the install the very latest version so it matches SCCM, you will then need to update your boot images so Windows PE updates to the latest one.
