Koldov Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hi, Anyone know of a decent, reasonable laptop repair service local to Luton (I know there are a few, but I'm hoping for personal recommendations)? I have an HP 620 laptop, where it appears the charging jack socket has somehow been damaged. Does anyone know how much this type of thing usually costs? Is it going to be cost effective? The laptop is quite old but still works ok, so seems a waste to junk it for a small issue.
Snoochieboochies Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 If the component is a standard jack socket, it might be worth looking to see if it can be purchased from Maplins or Rapid Electronics. Simple soldering is fairly straightforward.
Joanne Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 I'm doing a whole bunch of these at the moment. If you can pay postage it would be £35 plus the cost of the component. 1
Koldov Posted June 30, 2017 Author Posted June 30, 2017 Simple soldering is fairly straightforward. Yes, everything is easy once you know how! Unfortunately I don't and I'm not sure a school laptop is the best place for me to start learning... I'm doing a whole bunch of these at the moment. If you can pay postage it would be £35 plus the cost of the component. Thank you @Joanne, I shall try to find out the postage costs and PM you for further details should it appear viable.

Simple soldering is fairly straightforward. Its not something available from Maplins or Rapid. Its very simple to reattach the new jack with a soldering iron but a right struggle to remove. I use my hot air station, I charge £30 for socket replacements with the price of the part included. 1
