Hey everyone. Just looking for some advice. Looking at what it would take to create a simple VLE that tracks completion and accuracy of assignments, would have some collaboration such as social aspects of DB's and newsfeed, but still allow administrators a fairly high degree of control. I know SharePoint isn't ideal but I need to present research of what it would take to create so we can pilot and potentially move to cost option, such as moodle or others in the future. Has to be SharePoint2013 as that is the foundation for current SharePoint usage.

Any resources, advice, direction you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sharepoint has none of this functionality. You will need a third party such as Salamandersoft or Ruler (there may be others) to build it for you, or build it yourself.

I guarantee that if you try and build it yourself you will end up with a flat file repository and a lot of unfulfilled promises. It's what's happened where I am!

(I know I'm replying to an older post but hope this is useful)

Current school has VLE in Sharepoint and it is simply a repository for information and files. Homework assignments are notifications. Everything is public. In my own opinion it's not a suitable platform as a VLE. You need students to be able to upload their work securely without seeing other student's work and for individual conversations to take place between students and teachers. Microsoft Teams does offer some of this functionality but I would compare it with Edmodo, Google Classroom and others (Firefly etc) to see what would really be required by your school.
