boomam Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Hi. Can anyone recommend a laptop that i can use for diagnostic purposes? I have an old Dell im using at the moment, but wouldnt mind something different. Requirements: 1024x768+ screen dual core 2Gb ram 100Gb+ HDD Serial port Gigabit LAN WiFi. Any suggestions? Thanks. .
Geoff Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 I know why you've marked the serial port in bold. Most laptops these days don't have one. How about a USB to Serial adapter, would that work?

I know some of the Dell Latitudes and Precisions have serial ports. But im unsure on what those type of Dells are like? Edited March 13, 2008 by boomam
boomam Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 Im currently doing it all of a battered old D510 myself, but wouldnt mind something with a bit of grunt behind it. .
Ric_ Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 You really will struggle finding a serial port... even Thinkpads don't bother with legacy ports now. I just leave my converter permanently attached to a serial cable.
