Audit Mode/DSIM/NTLite.... fight!

So we currently have 1511 Enterprise deployed and are going to go to 1703.

 

Currently we use Audit Mode to

 

strip out all the jive we don't want/need,

install all our Apps

Sysprep

Throw into MDT

Deploy

 

Just wondering if people are still using Audit Mode or use DSIM or NTLite

Would of been create if MS let you WSUS update without it adding all the junk back in

 

Will be retaining the use of our Mandatory Profile - for now....

At least that won't happen when going from 1703 to 1709.

Yes. Any apps you have removed in RS2 (1703) will remain removed after upgrading to RS3 (1709) and subsequent releases.

Uninstalled in-box apps no longer automatically reinstall

 

Starting with Windows 10, version 1703, in-box apps that were uninstalled by the user won't automatically reinstall as part of the feature update installation process.

 

Additionally, apps de-provisioned by admins on Windows 10, version 1703 machines will stay de-provisioned after future feature update installations.

For me its NTLite and then throwing it into SCCM or MDT for a task sequence with all my apps installing at the end. Cant be dealing with all the fuss of sysprep. But I do also look after 6 schools (currently) and I really could not be bothered keeping different syspreps for each one. One WIM to rule them all for me!

This sounds like what I want to achieve. As we will have two school a plus the college I work for.

 

Is NTLite easy to remove the silly apps etc.

It is really simple to use. It will let you remove all the apps you want with simple tick boxes. Also warns what cant/shouldn't be removed.

 

I only use the free version (limited feature set) but it does everything I need. I have considered getting the pro version. It is $50, which may seem like a lot for something which can be all done through PowerShell etc... But, think of the time saving. Time saved = Money saved.

Was planning to upload my xml session, but on inspection it contains personal information I need to remove (and check then still works) before I can.

 

That would be a good point to see what I remove/tweak. I perform a rather light customisation. I work mostly with primaries and don't require as such vigorous customisation as maybe a high school or college.
