[wanted] Old Laptops/SSDs (or even APs if you're getting new ones!!)

(I posted this here last week but just found this forum, which doesn't look very active, but who knows?! BTW, I left the post intact, but I have had a kind edugeeker (@FragglePete) offer me those!)

 

Hi everyone,

 

I'm in a cash-strapped school (surprise-surprise) with many-many ICT needs. I'm in the process or reviving some ancient laptops for classroom use with Cloudready (with the free Home version for now hoping to find the funds to get the education and management licenses).

 

I also have a lot of teachers (read: all of them) with a little less ancient laptops which are extremely slow and most of them don't use them any more. Perhaps upgrading to SSDs might give them enough of a boost to start getting used again.

 

If you have any 6-7 year old laptops that you're looking to recycle or if you have any SSDs lying around unused, please consider donating them to a poor school. It will help us immensely.

 

Also, if you have any idea of companies that might be willing to donate to us Laptops/SSDs/APs please let me know.

Thanks very much for the offer. I am thinking about it. They might be useful to us if I can install Cloudready. Do you have any idea of how much it would be to send them to us?

They are quite heavy - about 1.5KG each. So a quick check on parcel2go.com suggests they would cost about £30 for next day delivery plus £21 insurance based on them being worth £15 each.

I could try installing the home version of cloudready on one of them if you like...

If you could try cloudready on them to see if it at least installs, that'd be great. ~£50 for delivery is fine.

Cloudready doesn't work - it appears to install OK, but doesn't. It was incredibly slow too so I wouldn't say they were a viable option.
