Hi All,

We have recently moved from SIMS to Progresso and are experience issues when it comes to editing reports. We cannot open the reports to edit as we get the error message, 'Application cannot be started. Contact the application vendor.'. We do not get this error when we use the main network admin account with full admin right but every other account we do. Even if the admin account is cloned we still get this error. The relevant changes have been made to our firewall to allow us to edit reports and we have also installed the 'click once' extension onto chrome as Progresso suggested. Has anyone else had this problem with Progresso? I have attached the detailed error log.

Thanks

Are you using Internet Explorer? The ClickOnce launchers don't work in Chrome or Firefox.

Edit:

Whoops, didn't read the bit where you answered that already. You could also try downloading the full program instead of the ClickOnce App here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6116

Download and install. You'll need to manually connect to the Progresso Reporting Server url which is https://reporting.progresso.net/Reportserver

Have tried installing the report builder program rather than the ClickOnce app and still no luck...

Bummer. No idea then I'm afraid. You might try deleting C:\Users\<>\AppData\Local\Apps - a long time ago I had some weird problem with a similar error message and that turned out to be the fix. Be warned that deletes any ClickOnce app they have installed though, so kinda a last resort...

EDIT: might also have to run this in cmd after you delete the folder above: rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

So you cant get it to work using chrome or IE and you cant launch report builder after installing from a executable ?

Got to be a random registry key you dont have permissions to or something ?

I have already tried to do this but the folder isn't there on any of the networked machines i've tried...

Sorry to ask but just in case; it is a hidden folder though - have you got them set to be visible?

I can launch the report builder program manually but not when trying to launch the report from progresso.

Yes have all folders set to visible.

OK. I'm out of ideas then. If you can open Report Builder manually though you should be able to load any report that's against your user account in Progresso by just going connecting to the Progresso ReportServer and then going File | Open. You can only see reports connected to your account that way so unfortunately if you wanted to edit any others you'd have to use the Copy button in Progresso first, which will stick the copy into your My Reports folder.

Terrible way to do it but might at least let you work till it gets figured out.

have you tried running

rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

same principle but different method. This sorted a prob once for me but I'd have play with bulk assign write access to the registry if this doesnt work. If that works you'll have to do some digging to try to isolate the reg keys causing an issue.

Tried this now and I can find the reports but I cant open them due to permissions granted to the account.

Tried this no joy.

That one should be solvable at least - it's likely just the permissions set for your User Role in Progresso.

Yes full admin rights so again this is a strange one.

Yep definitely messed up. Try going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\Report Builder 3.0 and delete MSReportBuilder.exe.config, then relaunch the ClickOnce app.

And esteemed friend reckons it's the .NET setup, but that's not User specific is it?

...clutching at straws here :p

What's Progresso support like - are they on the case too?

Progresso support can only be described as...shocking! They keep saying its the firewall and other than that they don't have any ideas.

Try it offsite and when it doesn't work bounce it back to support as not a firewall issue.
